The IPL success:A National Crisis

Kudos to Lalit Modi for seducing an entire nation with his erotic brand of pulsating cricket. When the ICL was announced, the BCCI rubbished the idea. When the rhetoric died down and ICL got into action, the BCCI decided to usurp the concept and make legal money. In comes Lalit Modi as its commisioner and in a short time, the plans were laid threadbare. To throw open to the public a delicious brand of masala which they were supremely confident we all would devour.Quickly the avaricious minds went overtime and conjured a formula to rake in the moolah even before a ball was bowled.Eight franchises were created and auctioned to the baron's of the business and film world.Round one to the BCCI.Its coffers have overflowed.Next Auction of the players. The business model has been lapped by the owners and the auction sees unheard of sums being leveraged to players some of whom are still in apprecenticeship.A first of sorts in our country.

Inspite of all the euphoria and grandeur.Inspite of all the rudiments being worked out.Inspite of all the hype. The question that remained on every one's lips was "Will IPL deliver its promises".The Bosses were lip tight, the players acted the same, the public had to decide. The stage was set for the inagural match and whow! what a turn out.A packed house and a new Business was Born. The coup had susesfully come off.Though the model was plagiarised it was packaged brilliantly with plenty of liberal doses of erotica in the form of cheer leaders.Scantily dressed oomphs displaying skin and gyrating every four or six.For once the fans did not mind who was hitting them. They got more than they bargained for. They were living in a flight of fantasy hitherto unknown. For a solid four hours they got more than their money's worth and went home happy. The crowds elsewhere responded similarly and in a weeks time the IPL became a sensational hit across the nation. In fact it became part of a historical revolution.

The sceptics had been blown out.The critics went into hiding. The gullible fans went into fantasy. They had fallen prey to the web of magic weaved by Lalit Modi and Co.The camouflage had worked - getting the ICC to accept its existence and playing the game as per ICC rules.Cricket sunk without a trace.Even the purist in Sunil Gavaskar revelled in the atmosphere. The majority of critics became a minority instantly and the ridiculed became the celebrators while the rest became utterly ridiculous. For all the intelligence we possess as a country,we are still passionate about our patronage to Cricket,Films,Politics and Religion.Blind Patronage.Which is why even after Gandhiji liberated our bodies from the imperial britishers,we are yet to liberate our souls from the magical tangles regularly woven by the four powerful lobbies mentioned above.

We all love our nation. We all love our people.Except that our priorities as a passionate society are misplaced. We are scape goats for the predators and jingoistic at that.We fall at the drop of a hat - the hat which can whip up fanatical patriotism in the guise of goodness and development.Which is why we are yet to become a powerful nation inspite of having become a Information superpower. So long as the Lalit Modi's are at work,we will continue to fall for their guile.Afterall all that we want is a vent to our desire even if it is at the cost of our senses.
